5. Be kind to yourself.
So, you’ve made your resolution to stop drinking. You’ve written it down and told your friends. But, two weeks into January you have a beer. Uh oh, you blew it, right?
No. It’s not the end of the world. While it’s great to hold ourselves to a high standard, it’s also important to show ourselves grace and stay positive — we can always start again tomorrow.
In fact, just cutting back is better than nothing at all. The point to remember is that you need to bounce back. So, if you have a drink, don’t keep drinking for the rest of the month. Take things in stride and recommit to your original resolution.
6. Plan for urges
You’ve made a plan for Dry January, but it may not always be easy to stick to it. Plan for the inevitability of an urge to drink at some point and know which actions you’ll take to overcome it.
There are simple strategies to employ when an urge strikes that can help such as a quick change of scenery. If you’re inside, go outdoors. If you’re with friends, take some alone time.
However, sometimes it feels like nothing can quench your thirst like a beer. When that’s the case, reach for a Grüvi IPA, which has the flavor you love without the booze.
7. Reflect regularly.
Making the commitment to Dry January is a big accomplishment. When you go an entire month without drinking, you are likely going to notice some positive changes in your mental and physical health.
To keep your motivation high, reflect regularly on how you’re feeling and make a note of the impact your commitment is having on your everyday life.
Going sober is difficult for many, but it’s almost always worth the effort. Order a case of Grüvi today and get a headstart on your New Years’ resolutions!
